While most people were in a year-end holiday mood, QubeApps was out doing something big—making a difference for the environment. When 38 Qube Heroes set out to Sekinchan for our Roots of Change CSR program, little did we know we were in for an adventure that would test our determination, teamwork, and love for the environment—all while ankle-deep or even knee-deep in mud.

The Journey: A Rainy Prelude

It was the rainy season, and true to its reputation, the sky poured generously as we made our way to Sekinchan. Spirits, however, remained undampened. Just as we were about to don our raincoats, the rain stopped, and we were greeted by a clear blue sky. It was as if nature itself decided to cheer us on. The sun made a dramatic entrance, cranking up the heat and setting the stage for what would be an unforgettable day.

From Feeding Hope to Planting Roots

“Roots of Change” builds on the foundation of our first QubeCares initiative, “Feeding Hope: One Meal at a Time,” where we distributed food to the underprivileged in the Chow Kit area. This time, we broadened our impact by focusing on the environment, aiming to leave a lasting legacy through mangrove restoration.

Learning Before Doing

Before we got our hands (and feet) dirty, we attended an educational talk hosted by JARING—Persatuan Pendidikan dan Kebajikan Jaringan Nelayan Pantai Malaysia. They enlightened us on the crucial role mangroves play in protecting coastal areas, supporting fisheries, and even combating climate change. Did you know mangroves are like nature’s superheroes, battling erosion and soaking up CO2 like it’s their day job? We didn’t either, but we left feeling inspired and ready to play our part.

The Mud, The Myth, The Mangroves

If you think planting 500 mangrove trees is a walk in the park, think again. The rain had turned the planting site into a mud-filled obstacle course. Even though we had boots, our pants and socks didn’t stand a chance against the clingy mud. Wearing our own shoes was out of the question, and it wasn’t long before people started getting stuck—literally. But hey, what’s a team-building activity without a little challenge? Laughter echoed as heroes helped each other pull out boots, feet, and the occasional tool from the stubborn mud.

Adding to the fun, we even had a froggy as our mascot to keep everyone’s spirits high. This unexpected companion hopped into our adventure, bringing smiles and lightening the mood when things got tough.

By the end of the day, it was impossible to count how many trees each person had planted. Instead, we compared who had the dirtiest shirts and pants—a true badge of honor for a hard day’s work.

Despite the scorching sun and sticky terrain, there was an undeniable sense of accomplishment with every tree planted. Each sapling was a step toward restoring Sekinchan’s coastal ecosystem—a small act with a big impact.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

The teamwork among the Qube Heroes was truly amazing. From helping each other out of the mud to cracking jokes that kept everyone smiling, the day showed what we can do when we work together. Partnering with JARING made it even better, as their knowledge and our effort came together perfectly.

Looking Ahead

“Roots of Change” is just the beginning. At QubeApps, we believe in making a difference—not just in technology, but in the world around us. With future CSR activities on the horizon, we’re excited to continue giving back and building a better tomorrow.

As we left Sekinchan—mud-splattered, sun-kissed, and hearts full—one thing was clear: change starts with small steps (and sometimes, muddy ones). Here’s to planting more roots of change in the future!
