Some days leave a mark on your heart forever.
Our recent QubeCares CSR visit to the Shelter Home For Children was one of those days.
This shelter is more than a roof and four walls. For many of the children and teenagers here, it’s a safe harbor after a storm, a place where they can feel safe from the abuse, neglect, or abandonment they’ve experienced. It’s where they are slowly learning to trust again, to smile again, and to dream again.
Breaking the Ice, Opening Hearts
We began with a gentle ice-breaking session: simple introductions and small games to help everyone feel at ease. At first, there were shy glances and quiet voices. But soon, laughter started to fill the room, and the children’s eyes began to sparkle.
It was beautiful to see how quickly a little fun can break down walls and open hearts.
Teamwork & Creativity in Action
Then came our team challenge: creating the longest vocabulary possible using marshmallows. Yes, marshmallows! The idea was silly, but the result was beautiful.
The children didn’t just come up with long scientific words; they cleverly stretched them out, spacing the letters to make the words even longer.
It was a joyful display of imagination, teamwork, and resourcefulness. This indicates that creativity has no limits when children feel safe to explore.
Life Lessons Through Play
We wanted our visit to be more than just a fun day together. We wanted it to be meaningful for their future. So, we set up a mock grocery store with our POS system. The kids played the roles of shoppers and cashiers, taking turns scanning items, counting money, and giving change.
Through this simple activity, we shared small but important lessons on financial management: the value of saving, the joy of helping others, and how to spend money wisely. The room was alive with laughter and curiosity. One moment they were giggling over scanning snacks, the next, they were proudly showing off their purchases. Learning had never felt so joyful.
The shelter’s person-in-charge shared a story that touched us deeply: a former resident had once started his own business but struggled because he didn’t know how to give back the correct change. Even basic skills can shape a person’s success in life and that these little lessons today may become life-changing tomorrow.
Giving from the Heart
Along with our time and companionship, we brought household essentials, personal items, cash donations, and refurbished laptops. These laptops will support the children’s schoolwork, tuition, and self-learning – helping bridge the gap in digital access.
But more than what we carried in our hands, we hoped to bring something deeper: moments of joy, care, and encouragement.
Love, Healing & New Beginnings
The shelter is doing more than caring for children. It’s helping these children heal, to mend the wounds that can’t be seen, and to give them the love and guidance they deserve.
They are breaking the cycle of hurt and replacing it with hope.
And on that day, for a few precious hours, we got to be part of that journey.
We saw smiles that lit up the room, laughter that came from deep inside, and courage shining in the eyes of children who had been through more than most of us can imagine.
We left with full hearts, reminded that sometimes, the greatest difference we can make is simply showing up with kindness, with patience, and with love.
Because love, given freely, can change everything.
